Gossip Corner: Tim Tebow Nixes His Speech
Wow, he’s beautiful and genuine. Sigh…
Tim Tebow was unfairly coerced by the media to cancel his speaking appearance at the First Baptist Church in Dallas … well at least according to the church, anyway.
A rep for the church informs TMZ “We are saddened that Mr. Tebow felt pressure to back out of his long-planned commitment from numerous New York and national sports and news media who grossly misrepresented past comments made by our pastor, Dr. Robert Jeffress, specifically related to issues of homosexuality and AIDS, as well as Judaism.”
Now, one may wonder how Rev. Jeffress could have been misinterpreted for saying, “70 percent of the gay population” has AIDS — and has described Judaism, Islam and Mormonism as religions from the “pit of hell.”
According to the church, Tebow phoned Dr. Jeffress Wednesday evening to claim that for “personal and professional reasons he needed to avoid controversy” … and would be eliminating the appearance which was slated for April 28.
The church alleges Tebow said to Rev. Jeffress he’d still like to visit and share his amazing words at First Baptist Dallas sometime in the future. Tebow also quotes, “Dr. Jeffress shares a message of hope, not hate.”
Not sure what to believe here. If Tebow truly thought that Rev. Jeffress didn’t show animosity or prejudice, then why cancel? Did he change his mind and realize that he didn’t want to be associated with something like that anyway – or did he succumb to the pressure of the media and figure more information would be released that suggests otherwise? Either way, to many women, Tim Tebow is still beautiful – inside and out :)
