Well hey there, I’m Mandy Kovacs – @MandyVKovacs on Twitter - and I’ve been a sports fanatic all my life (thanks Dad). Growing up as the only girl in my family, loving sports wasn’t an option; it was a requirement. I’ve done everything from soccer to figure skating to swimming to volleyball to golf; even a bit of baseball and horseback riding in there somewhere. You name it; I’ve probably tried it at least once.
Currently, I’m a university student majoring in journalism and law, and minoring in political science. It’s a lot, but I have broad interests so why not eh? I’d love to specialize in sports broadcasting or something along those lines because I want to be involved in sports for the rest of my life.
My favourite sport to watch is definitely hockey and since I’m a Toronto girl, the Leafs will always be number one. I’m an avid supporter of all Toronto teams, no matter how bad they may suck or how much hate I get. Luke Schenn was my boy; his trade is still a very sensitive topic to me so let’s all just forget it ever happened…
My favourite sports memory is when the Canadian men’s hockey team won the gold medal in the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, and I’m proud to say that during those games, I never missed watching a single event. The Olympics have a special place in my heart; my dream is to cover the winter games and/or attend one.
If I’m not playing or watching sports, you could probably find me watching more TV and cuddling with my cat, who is the love of my life. I’ve been told I get obsessed with both shows and cute animals really easily – oops. I’ve also been called eccentric, passionate and hilarious; those are all good things right?
I live by the motto that you regret the things you don’t do in life more than the things you do, so I try to be outgoing and adventurous whenever I can. I’m a brutally open person, I’m not afraid to admit that I talk to myself, and I hate dry texters. I love winter, animals, and beer a little too much. I want to backpack across the world one day with my best friend and I can honestly say I couldn’t live without my cat, friends, family, and phone.
