SBOTD Presents: Toiaya Crawford, SBOTD Writer
Hi SBOTD & Babes Dig Balls readers! My name is Toiaya , but some just call me Toi. I was born and raised in Palmetto/Bradenton/Sarasota, Florida (if you’re from the area, you’ll know why I bunched them all in one). I came into my own in Jacksonville, Fl, enjoyed life in Tampa, Fl, and finding my way in Memphis, TN. I won’t tell you my age, because if I do you probably wouldn’t believe me (I get the same response EVERY. SINGLE. TIME). So, I’ll save myself some keystrokes and just tell you that I can relate to American Pie (Michelle, not Stifler and NOT Stifler’s mom). I bleed green and gold as a University of South Florida Alumni (GO BULLS!), but I believe in the garnet and gold of Florida State (GO SEMINOLES!). I am a lover of the Lord, all things sports, entertainment, fashion, books, music and SHOES! Seriously, I can’t get enough of shoes. Heels, flats, tennis shoes…I love them all! Although, I will tell you I have never owned, or had the urge to own a pair of Jordan’s. I also love to sing (not well, but hey, I love it). I have never played a sport. Ohhhh, wait, there was my senior year of high school when I was on the track and field team. I competed in the discus throw and shot put contests. I sucked MAJORLY, but I played. I guess at this point, I should also mention I flipped a flag my senior year in the marching band. I guess this is why I relate more to Michelle in American Pie (this one time in band camp…LOL)! I lead an interesting life and have many tales I could tell, but get to know me more in:
23 QUESTIONS WITH TOIAYA CRAWFORD:
(1.) In three words, how would your friends describe you?
In. The. Know.
(2.) Who are your favourite athletes or sports teams to watch?
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers baby! I have faith that they will return to the good ol’ days….one day. As a youngin’ I grew up knowing and loving all things Cowboys. Dallas Cowboys that is! Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith, Deion Sanders…all greats in my book! And, within the last couple of years I have been exposed to hockey and have a special place in my heart for the Tampa Bay Lightning (and Nate Thompson *sigh*). My all-time favorite athlete would have to be Ray Lewis. I can’t recall anyone in MY lifetime that goes after the QB harder than him…and it doesn’t hurt that he has a body for days!
(3.) Peanut butter: crunchy or smooth?
(4.) I love SBOTD but I pay my bills by:
I currently work in the NBA as a corporate communications coordinator. I also free-lance.
(5.) What’s in your DVD collection and/or what’s your favourite book?
My DVD collections includes movies such as Love Jones (all-time fave), Love & Basketball, and The Notebook. Oh, and Just Wright is one of my new faves. I can totally relate to Leslie Wright’s character…I ain’t no salad eating chick! Lol! My book collection mainly consist of romance novels. Yeah, there’s a theme going here. I love love, and combine it with sports? WINNING!
(6.) Growing up, did you have a role model or someone who inspired you to be who you are?
My role models would have to be my mom, grandmother, and aunts. They are the perfect example of strong women who held things together with the little that they had. My mother gave her all for me and my sister and I’m grateful. My grandmother was the reason I made it through my college years, thank God for praying (and supporting) grandmothers! She is also THE queen of hustling (cue Rick Ross).
(7.) Who would you bring back from the dead and what would you say to them?
The queen of my heart, my mother, who I loss on Valentine’s Day 2011. I would tell her that I love her unconditionally.
(8.) What song do you sing at karaoke – or would you sing if you had to?
I would sing anything Aretha Franklin. I love karaoke! Granted I had to have a couple of drinks prior to singing, but I loved doing it. Now, it would be more difficult for me to get up on stage, seeing as I gave up drinking back in 2009. *sigh* Oh, the life I lead.
(9.) If you won a million dollars in a lottery, what would you do with it?
Pay off my debts, take care of my family, and start one of the million businesses running through my head.
(10.) If you could interview any athlete, who would it be and why?
Ray Hit-Em-Hard-Lewis. I. Love. Him. The man has been through a lot in his life and has overcome it all with determination and an unbreakable spirit….oh, and he’s hot!
(11.) If you could be a fly on the wall in any sports team locker room, which one would it be and why?
The Philadelphia Eagles locker room after their Superbowl loss (24-21) to the New England Patriots. Terrell Owens and Donovan McNabb in the same room after that fiasco had DRAMA written all over it.
(12.) Is there a motto, saying or core truth you try to live by?
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.—Philippians 4:13
(13.) Are you single, dating, or locked down?
What do you notice first about the opposite sex? I’m a free agent. Make me an offer! The first thing I notice about a man is the way he carries himself. It’s something sexy about a rightfully confident man.
(14.) What’s your idea of the perfect date?
I’m a simple girl that loves sports. My perfect date would probably be to a game.
(15.) What has been your proudest accomplishment to date and what are your goals for the future?
Up to this moment I would have to say completing my Masters. It hasn’t been easy, but it was worth it.
(16.) Name something you do when you’re alone that you wouldn’t do in front of others.
Wow! There’s really not much I won’t do in front of others. I’m crazy like that! Lol!
(17.) What are your three biggest pet peeves?
Close-minded individuals….people who go 40 in a 50….people who continue to play the woe-is-me game. Life is going to throw you curve balls, learn when to swing and when to hold!
(19.) What advice would you give to your 16 year old self?
Step outside of your comfort zone. Don’t be afraid to go for what you want. A “no” will not hurt you.
(20.) What’s your most memorable moment as a sports fan?
When the Superbowl came to Jacksonville, Fl. It was my first time volunteering for such an event. The experience was an eye-opening and amazing time that I would never forget.
(21.) What are your guilty pleasures?
Kicking back in a tank top and sweats, eating pizza, and Reese cups.
(22.) Name five items you couldn’t live without.
My iPad…I do not go ANYWHERE without it! Thanks Apple! Lip gloss…lips have to be poppin’! Victoria Secret’s is a favorite of mine. My phone…I could be running late to work, and if I don’t have it I WILL turn back around for it. Don’t judge me! My truck…I went a day without my car and about lost my mind! I hate depending on others! Diet Coke…Seriously! Its like my coffee. If I don’t have it, I am not a happy camper. Yes, I know they say it’s bad for you, but hey! I don’t smoke or drink, so this is my vice!
(23) What do you want to be remembered for?
I want to be remembered as a good daughter/sister/friend/person, a fashion diva who set the world by storm. I’d like to let my work speak for me.
To sum it all up…I am God’s child. Linda’s daughter. Chara Sanyai’s sister. USF/USSA grad. Marketer/PR specialist/event planner. Music lover. Sports Fanatic. Entertainment enthusiast.
