What better place to play hockey on Hockey Day in America than the great outdoors? Two NCAA Div-1 Men’s hockey games took place outdoors on February 17th, 2013, a day that America celebrated the great game of hockey. Outdoor games have become increasingly popular over the years as fans love to watch the sport played where it all began, on the ODR.

The OfficeMax Hockey City Classic featured Notre Dame and Miami University, two teams that have never participated in outdoor games before, as well as Wisconsin and Minnesota. All four teams put on a show at Soldier’s Field, home of the NFL’s Chicago Bears, for a crowd of over 52,000.

BDWVQARCYAAS2SDThose fans could not have been disappointed as both games had their fair share of excitement. Notre Dame and Miami had a close race ended with a 2-1 win for Notre Dame. Junior Jeff Costello pulled through with the game winner. Later on, Minnesota gave Wisconsin a run for their money after trailing 3-0 heading into the third period. Ultimately the Badgers came away with a 3-2 victory, even though they were outshot 36-16.

In other news, the ECAC No.1 Quinnipac Bobcats were finally defeated, snapping their 21 game unbeaten streak. The victory went to the St.Lawrence Saints. This also happened to be the Bobcats first loss to another ECAC team this season.

Wishing a speedy recovery to Wade Macleod of the Springfield Falcons of the AHL. Macleod is a Northeastern University alumnus who suffered a seizure after being hit from behind on Sunday. Get well Wade!

Finally, enjoy a mighty fine Harlem Shake from the Canisius College Golden Griffins!
