The CHL teams may be gearing up for playoffs, but there is another monumental moment looming in the future.

The 2014 NHL draft is just under five months away, which makes these next couple of months the most important for hockey’s top prospects.

Below are the top five prospects going into the draft, and the teams they will most likely play for (based on league standings at the Olympic break):

1. Sam Bennett (Kingston Frontenacs) – Buffalo Sabres

Bennett, a center, leads the team so far this year with 72 points in 44 games. In the past 29 games, he a has a point in all but one with a plus/minus of +29. He has an unrivaled ability to put the puck in the net.

2. Leon Draisaitl (Prince Albert Raiders) – Edmonton Oilers

In his second season in Prince Albert, Draisaitl leads the Raiders with 64 points in 22 games. The German native has racked up points in all but nine games this season.

3. Aaron Ekblad (Barrie Colts) – Florida Panthers

Ekblad is a defenseman that is capable of playing in all defensive and offensive situations. With 38 points in 38 games, his impressive blend of size and strong skating makes him a threat in all three zones.

4. Sam Reinhart (Kootenay Ice) – Calgary Flames

Reinhart’s 70 points in 41 games are a product of his exceptional hockey sense and skill. He is a versatile player that is capable of playing on the wing or center and is a key component of the Ice’s penalty kill and power play.

5. Michael Dal Colle (Oshawa Generals) – New York Islanders

Dal Colle’s 73 points in 51 games in his second year makes him the team leader. His imposing stature paired with his natural skill allows him to play a solid two-way game.

The 2014 NHL Draft will be held in June in Philadelphia.
